CoolSculpting vs Belkyra
Submental fullness… aka the pesky double chin. It’s an area a lot of people struggle with but guess what? You don’t have to struggle with it anymore!
Here at Ageless Living, our nurses offer 2 different treatments for the double chin. Let’s talk about them!
Treatment #1 – Belkyra
Belkyra is the only Health Canada approved injectable that uses deoxycholic acid to permanently melt away fat cells under the chin. Once these fat cells have been eliminated, they become unable to store or accumulate fat.
Belkyra is only able to treat the subcutaneous tissue directly under the chin
due to the nerves and anatomical structures that surround this area. Your nurse will map out this area to determine your treatment plan and ensure the appropriate tissue will be targeted.
Most people will see results in 2-4 treatments; however, some people will need up to 6 treatments for full results. These treatments will be spaced six to eight weeks apart. A follow-up will be done 2 weeks after each treatment. Once your aesthetic goal is achieved, there is not typically a need for further treatments.
What does a treatment day look like?
Yay! You and your nurse have decided that Belkyra is the best option for treating your double chin. On your appointment day, you will come in and have photos taken so we can compare the area before and after all treatments. Then, the area will be numbed with a topical anesthetic for 30-45 minutes prior to the injections starting. Once it’s numb, the area will be mapped out, and the nurse will begin injecting. Once the treatment is done, an ice pack will be provided, and you’ll be sent on your way!
Treatment #2 – CoolSculpting
Coolsculpting is an FDA and Health Canada approved treatment that uses controlled freezing to target and eliminate fat cells throughout different areas of the body, with the submental area being one of the most common areas to treat. Once these fat cells have been eliminated, they will not be able to store or accumulate fat.
CoolSculpting differs from Belkyra in that it can treat subcutaneous tissue along the entire jawbone. Your nurse will map out this area to determine your treatment plan and ensure all appropriate tissue is being targeted.
With CoolSculpting, most patients will see results with 2 treatments; however, some people will need an additional third treatment. Treatments are spaced six to eight weeks apart, and full results are 3 months after the second treatment. A follow-up will be done 2 weeks after each treatment.
What does a treatment day look like?
Woohoo! You and your nurse have decided that CoolSculpting is the best treatment for your double chin. On your appointment day, you will come in and have photos taken so we can compare the area before and after all treatments. The area will then be mapped out and a pre-treatment skin wipe will be used to prep your skin for the cold. Afterwards, a gel solution is applied to the area and the applicator is attached. Then it’s time to freeze! Following treatment, your nurse will massage the area to break up those frozen fat cells. Did you know that doing this massage will give you 68% better results than not doing it? That’s cool 😉 After treatment is completed, you’ll be sent on your way!
Aftercare for both treatments:
Despite these treatments being very different, the aftercare is similar. You may experience swelling, bruising, discomfort, and numbness; however, these will subside over the course of 1-2 weeks. Your nurse will discuss if there is anything you can do to help alleviate discomfort at your appointment.
