Summer Is Coming – Treatments That Do Better Without Heat or a Tan

Did you know that some skin treatments have better results and fewer side effects when your skin isn’t exposed to heat or sun?

As summer approaches, it’s essential to choose skin treatments that are both safe and effective during the warmer months.

At Ageless Living Cold Lake, we offer a variety of services designed to keep your skin healthy and radiant without increasing sensitivity to heat or sun exposure.

Why Timing Matters for Skin Treatments

Certain professional skin treatments can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. When your skin is exposed to heat or UV rays too soon after treatment, you risk irritation, pigmentation, or even burns.

That’s why scheduling these treatments during cooler months or before summer arrives can help you achieve optimal results.

Treatments That Are Best Before Summer

If you’re considering these treatments, it’s best to get them done before summer or wait until fall to avoid unwanted side effects.

Laser Hair Removal

Did you know that laser hair removal is most effective on untanned skin?

This treatment works by targeting the pigment in hair follicles, and a tan can interfere with its precision.

Plus, sun exposure after treatment increases the risk of hyperpigmentation and burns.

To get the best results, schedule your sessions before summer or use diligent sun protection if continuing treatment during the season.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels exfoliate the skin deeply, leaving it more sensitive to the sun. If done too close to summer, you may experience redness, irritation, or uneven pigmentation.

To avoid complications, it’s best to complete a peel series in the cooler months when sun exposure is minimal.

Microneedling

This treatment stimulates collagen production and helps improve skin texture, acne scars, and fine lines.

However, your skin needs time to heal, and excessive sun exposure post-treatment can lead to irritation and pigmentation.

If you’re considering microneedling, plan it in early spring or wait until after summer.

Morpheus8

If you haven’t heard about Morpheus8, it is a treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to target deeper layers of the skin. It’s ideal for:

  • Improving skin texture and tone
  • Reducing acne scars and fine lines
  • Tightening sagging skin

Because Morpheus8 stimulates collagen production and requires a healing period, it’s best to avoid sun exposure afterward.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Therapy

IPL is a treatment that uses light energy to address a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Facial veins and redness (rosacea)
  • Uneven pigmentation

IPL works best on untanned skin, as the laser targets pigment in the skin. Sun exposure before or after treatment can increase the risk of side effects like hyperpigmentation.

How to Protect Your Skin After Treatments

No matter which treatment you choose, protecting your skin is key. Here’s how you can maintain your results and avoid sun damage:

Wear SPF Daily

Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours if you’re spending time outdoors.

Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

Wear hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing, and seek shade when outdoors to minimize UV exposure.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin supple and prevent dehydration. Hydrated skin heals better and maintains a youthful glow.

Use Gentle Skincare

Avoid harsh exfoliants and products with strong active ingredients after treatments to prevent irritation and ensure optimal healing.

By selecting appropriate treatments and diligently protecting your skin, you can enjoy a healthy, radiant complexion all summer long.
