Top 6 Summer Skincare Tips

Summer is in full force—and it’s hot out.

With warmer days and stronger rays it’s more important than ever to get—and stay—on top of your skincare routine.

We’re sharing 6 summer skincare tips and offer options to freshen up, protect, and add a little glow to your face.

Beautiful skin is an all-season commitment.

1. Increase the SPF

sunscreen

Apply enough SPF every day to exposed areas—face, neck, chest, ears, and hands—and reapply it every 2 hours, or more often if you’re working out, sweating, or swimming.

As far as enough is concerned, two fingers-worth of sunscreen is enough for either side of the face and neck and a shot glass-worth works to exposed areas on the body.

2. Go mineral

Mineral sunscreens are made with the active ingredients zinc oxide or titanium oxide—or both.

These minerals offer UV protection by sitting on the skin’s surface, instead of being absorbed by it like chemical sunscreens (not ideal), and act like tiny mirrors that reflect harmful UV rays.

3. Keep moisturizing—but lighten it up

Even if your skin may feel oilier due to the humidity and hotter weather, or exercising in hotter temperatures, you still need to moisturize post-cleansing.

Switch up your thick moisturizer to one that’s lighter. Bonus marks if the moisturizer has SPF

4. Go lighter on the makeup—and make sure it comes with SPF

Like with moisturizer, it’s important to change up your makeup game in the summer.

Ditch the heavy foundations and swap them for lighter ones—with SPF—in your everyday routine.

5. Wash your face—but not constantly

Cleanse your face twice a day, but no more.

Even though your skin may feel oilier during the summer, avoid the urge to cleanse more often. You don’t want to strip away the healthy protective oils of your skin.

6. Cover up

The easiest way to protect against harmful UV rays is to cover up. Wear (stylish) sun protective hats and clothing while you’re outdoors. Your skin will thank you.
